SEO skills for Codex
OpenAI's command-line agent. Install any SEO skill into Codex with one command. Technical audits, content briefs from SERP intent, schema markup, keyword research, and local SEO.
Install into Codex
$ npx skills add https://seoskills.sh -a codexInstall in 4 steps
Pick skills from the catalog
Run this in your repository. The CLI lists the skills our index serves, nearly the whole catalog, and asks which ones to install for Codex. Add --skill '*' to take all of them.
$ npx skills add https://seoskills.sh -a codexOr install a single skill
Each skill page has its own command; add -a codex. Our skills install by slug from https://seoskills.sh, and skills by other authors install from their GitHub repository.
$ npx skills add https://seoskills.sh --skill striking-distance-finder -a codexKnow where it goes
In a project the CLI writes to .agents/skills/, which Codex checks in every folder from where you launch it up to the repository root. Codex's own docs give ~/.agents/skills/ for your personal skills, so if a global install (-g) doesn't show up, copy the skill's folder there.
Ask for the job
Codex sees each skill's name and description and loads one when your task matches, or you can name it with $ or pick it from /skills. Restart Codex if a new skill is missing.
Start with these
Twelve to start with, all built by seoskills.sh. The first six fix pages and plan content; the rest run scripts against your Search Console exports, crawls and sitemaps, which suits an agent that works in your terminal and repository.
Audits a page's title, description, headings, content, links, images and tags for a target keyword, and returns each fix as the exact change to make.
Diagnoses failing LCP, INP and CLS from field data and Lighthouse, names the elements, files and scripts at fault, and ranks the fixes by savings.
Generates complete JSON-LD for a page from what it shows, checks existing markup against Google's required properties, and flags what it could not find.
Builds a prioritized keyword list from seed topics with Google Autocomplete and your exports, with intent, content type and create or update actions.
Writes an editor-ready content brief from what the top results cover: format, length, must-cover subtopics, questions, terms and internal links.
Finds keywords sitting in Search Console positions 11 to 20 with real demand, ranks them by projected click gain, and maps each to its page.
Flags Search Console queries whose click-through rate falls well below what your position should earn, and points to title, meta or SERP causes.
Builds your internal link graph, finds closely related pages that aren't linked yet, and suggests contextual links with anchor text.
Audits XML sitemaps against the protocol and samples your URLs for errors, noindex and redirects, or builds clean sitemap files from a crawl.
Crawls a site within robots.txt and extracts the same fields from every page (SEO tags, JSON-LD values, patterns, tables) into one CSV or JSON table.
Scores a page on how easily ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI Overviews can quote it, checks AI crawler access, and rewrites the weak passages.
Questions
- Does Codex support SKILL.md skills?
- Yes. Codex reads skills from .agents/skills/ in your repository and from ~/.agents/skills/ for your own, which is the same SKILL.md format Claude Code and Cursor use.
- How do I call a specific skill in Codex?
- Mention it with $ followed by its name, or run /skills in the Codex CLI or IDE extension and pick it. Codex can also choose a skill on its own when your request matches the skill's description.
- How do I update or remove a skill?
- npx skills update refreshes everything you installed, npx skills list -a codex shows what Codex has, and npx skills remove <name> -a codex takes a skill out.
- Do the skills cost anything?
- No, every skill here is free to install. Some call paid APIs such as Ahrefs, Semrush or DataForSEO and need your own key; the skill's instructions say which.
